ISTANBUL, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu Thursday called upon Syrian opposition to show solidarity in the run-up to the Geneva II conference.
Davutoglu made the statement at a joint press conference with Ahmad Jarba, head of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), the opposition umbrella group based in Istanbul.
"A strong representation of the Syrian people at the Geneva II is Turkey's biggest desire. In that context, we will continue to give our support to the SNC," Davutoglu said.
Ahmad Jarba said that the SNC is the only legitimate structure that represents the Syrian people, adding, "we have been holding talks with Western countries and Arab countries" in efforts to appeal for international support.
Meanwhile, Davutoglu said that there would be several meetings in Turkey in the next few days held by some countries in the region for further consultations on the Geneva II conference.
The Syrian conflict, almost three years old, has killed more than 100,000 people, driven more than two million abroad as refugees, and left many millions more dependent on aid.
